How would you describe the working culture at War Child?

When I first started, people told me how amazing it is to work for War Child and how special the team is - 10 months in, I couldn't agree more! I’ve found the leadership team really supportive and everyone plays a part in making this an inspiring and driven work community. I’ve also made some amazing friends!

What do you enjoy about your role and/or working for War Child?

My favourite thing about both my role, and working for WC more generally, is that my voice genuinely feels heard. I'm always encouraged to speak to Leadership Group transparently about my ideas, and once I do, I feel that change actually incurs as a result. I see the difference I'm making in my everyday work, and I find it really meaningful knowing it's valued by my colleagues at all stages of their careers.

What does a typical day at War Child look like for you

It’s a cliché but there’s no such thing as a typical day, I could be working on a creative concept to activate at a festival, begging artists to play a show, putting 700 7” vinyls into production or talking on a podcast about the power of music to reach children who have experienced trauma. That sounds quite glamorous, maybe more than it should! I could also be processing royalty statements or writing copy for the website.

What do you enjoy about your role and/or working for War Child?

Before working at War Child, I'd never been in a position where the news would have such a profound impact on my day-to-day work. The 'live' aspect of our work is something I really enjoy as I know the work I do can make such a difference to those that are living through war. For me, it means there's a direct link between me doing my job well and support being provided to children in the most dire situations.

As for the role itself, I really enjoy say the people, the autonomy & the collaborations. There's an openness and creativity about War Child that allows, and encourages, people to flourish.

What is your most memorable moment from working at War Child?

I’ve worked for War Child for a long time (I joined in 2016) so it’s hard to pick just one. I was lucky enough to attend the Biffy Clyro hero gig at Shepherd’s Bush Empire in 2017. Incredible show and the opportunity to see first-hand how our talented, hard-working team, deliver amazing, creative fundraising that has a huge capacity to inspire people.

What makes you proud to work for War Child?

It is a tragedy for any child to live through war. It is a deeper tragedy still for war to steal a child’s future. At War child, we know that future can be filled with hope because we have scientifically proven interventions that positively impact children. I’m so proud of all that our staff and supporters do to make this possible.

What makes you proud to work for War Child?

I'm proud to work for an organisation whose primary goal is to help children. Children who live in places where war has affected their lives in ways that are totally out of their control. I am especially proud that War Child approaches this creatively - through our interventions in the countries we work in, through the way we raise money and through the relationships we have within the creative industries.

What makes you proud to work for War Child?

War Child is uniquely placed to support children suffering trauma in war and conflict, that’s why I work here. We want to reach more children who need us more than ever. I’m proud to be part of an organisation focused on fundraising and advocacy - standing up for the rights of children, educating, and giving psychosocial support that begins to create a better tomorrow for these children. It’s a special place to work where talented colleagues seek to make a lasting difference to young lives in desperate need, that deserve so much better, now that’s inspiring!

What makes you proud to work for War Child?

War Child has a very clear focus to help Children affected by war and you can really feel the drive, passion, and energy to generate as much support as possible across the whole organisation. This is done in an inclusive way, where different teams often work closely together to achieve things greater than the sum of their parts. I feel very proud to be a part of an organisation with this collaborative energy and focus to do something positive in devastating situations for so many children across the world.

What makes you proud to work for War Child?

Working in war zones is dangerous and complex, but our commitment to be there for children during the most difficult time of their lives couldn’t be more motivating for me. The dedication, collaboration and creativity our team in the UK applies to raising the money that makes this possible is wonderful. I feel very lucky to work somewhere that achieves so much for children, in such a brilliant way.
