What does a typical day at War Child look like for you?
My role is very varied and can look quite different from one day to the next. There is usually a good mix of internal and external tasks so on one day I could be developing the Philanthropy strategy and plans or meeting with my incredible team to plan our next special event. On other days I could be meeting our inspiring major donor supporters to update them about our important work in Gaza, Ukraine or DRC or delivering a pledge dinner supported by our amazing Ambassadors and high profile supporters which raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for children.
What do you enjoy about your role and/or working for War Child?
When we meet a new donor who is really inspired by our work and pledges to donate a big gift. It is always such a privilege to be part of someone’s philanthropy and knowing that I am a part of delivering War Child’s crucial programmes to children. It’s so hard to see the news headlines every day but my job makes me feel like I’m doing something positive, it is purposeful and full of heart which is what I have always dreamed my career would be.
How would you describe the working culture at War Child?
It’s unique! We like to do things differently, new ideas and creativity is really nurtured at War Child which I think sets us apart from other charities. The work is also very inspiring and we all feel really connected to it. We meet with our programmes staff who tell us exactly what it is like to be working in places like Lebanon for example, when they suddenly had to evacuate from the south when violence erupted in October 2024. We are all one family and we all really support and stand by each other.
