Thom Pacey

Thom is Senior Acquisition Manager and works in our Supporter Engagement team.

What does a typical day at War Child look like for you?

Every day feels different with the range of teams and projects across the charity.

As the Senior Acquisition Manager, I lead on many of our digital campaigns across Instagram, Facebook and YouTube - all aiming to convey the importance of the work we do. There's such a mix of things to get stuck into to support this; I'm regularly involved in conversations around fundraising for our gigs, designing new creative for social media and improving the look & feel of our website. The variety in my role always keeps the day-to-day both fresh and interesting as well as allowing for a huge scope for development.

What do you enjoy about your role and/or working for War Child?
Before working at War Child, I'd never been in a position where the news would have such a profound impact on my day-to-day work. The 'live' aspect of our work is something I really enjoy as I know the work I do can make such a difference to those that are living through war. For me, it means there's a direct link between me doing my job well and support being provided to children in the most dire situations.

As for the role itself, I really enjoy say the people, the autonomy & the collaborations. There's an openness and creativity about War Child that allows, and encourages, people to flourish.

How would you describe the working culture at War Child?

A very happy place to be! Every person seems able to bring their authentic self to work which results in a brilliant, open culture. Everyone's an expert in their area and more than happy to share ideas on what they're working on. We're all incredibly appreciative of each other's knowledge and experience, with collaborations going on all the time.

What is your most memorable moment from working at War Child?

Scoring for the War Child 5-a-side team!

We were hosting a football tournament named 'Indie Music Cup' in the summer with 20+ teams, DJ's and drinks over in Battersea. We'd (slightly embarrassingly) lost every game on the day before I'd smashed in a last-second equaliser in the final game. Not quite the victory we'd hoped for, but we celebrated regardless!

What would you say to someone thinking of applying for a role at War Child?

Go for it! I've been in the sector for nearly 10 years and it's the best place I've ever worked.
