Reverse UK aid cuts
to children in war zones

The UK Government has decided to slash aid spending by 40%. 

The world is becoming an ever more dangerous place to be a child. This cut in UK aid comes at a time when nearly 1 in 5 are living in conflict – that is 473 million children around the world who need direct support.

This is the UK Government’s largest ever cut to aid, meaning the UK aid budget will be at its lowest since 1999. No Government should balance its books at the expense of the world's most vulnerable children. 

UK aid saves lives, prevents wars, and helps children recover from the trauma caused by the horrors they’ve witnessed. Ultimately, cutting aid makes the world a more dangerous place. When aid stops, wars start. 

There has never been a more important time to strengthen our commitment to children living through war – children who cannot advocate for themselves. 

Join us in calling for the UK Government to restore its commitment to international aid.

I am writing as a supporter of War Child UK, a children’s charity that works in war zones, to express my deep concern over the Prime Minister’s decision to cut the UK’s international aid budget from 0.5% to 0.3%. 

For children living through conflict, UK aid is often the difference between life and death. It provides food, health care, and education to those who have lost everything. Cutting this support will mean that more children will go hungry, more will be denied an education, and more will be left traumatised by what they have witnessed without hope to recover. 

The UK has long been a leader in providing aid to the world’s most vulnerable, and we should be proud of that legacy. But reducing our commitment now will have devastating consequences. 

It will not only leave children at greater risk but will also lead to greater global instability. A safer world for them means a safer world for us all. Simply put, when aid stops, wars start.  

The Government should not be balancing the books at the expense of the most vulnerable children. I urge you, as my MP, to raise this issue with the Prime Minister and call for the UK to restore its commitment to international aid.   

We must not turn our backs on the nearly 1 in 5 children globally living through conflict around the world. Now is the time to strengthen our commitment to them, not retreat from it.
