Kano to headline O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire in August in support of War Child

The show will be amongst the biggest to mark the return of live music and will be War Child’s first event since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Acclaimed musical pioneer Kano will be gracing the stage of the O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire on 11 August 2021, to play an exclusive full band headline show in support of War Child.

The show comes ahead of sold-out festival appearances by Kano, including hotly anticipated headline slots at All Points East, Boardmasters and NASS, and follows what was hailed as an ‘astonishing’ and ‘career-defining’ livestreamed Glastonbury set earlier this year as part of Live At Worthy Farm

Touring for Kano’s last album – the mercury nominated Hoodies All Summer – also featured sold-out headline shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall and The Drumsheds, with the album celebrated for raising the bar in terms of artistic vision, challenging and enriching the social, musical and cultural landscape of Britain.

Now fans will be treated to this special, one-off show where Kano will showcase the musical offerings which have been long praised for their significance to the fabric of Black British music and culture.

The show will be amongst the biggest to mark the return of live music and will be War Child’s first event since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic which left the charity £2.5 million short of their expected income. Proceeds from this show will enable War Child to continue their work in protecting, educating and standing up for the rights of children caught up in conflict and supporting those communities who have been hardest hit by the pandemic.

Tickets for this intimate show are expected to be in very high demand and go on sale this Friday 16th July via ticketmaster.co.uk and kanomusic.com. Prices start from £35.

Sam Briggs, Senior Music and Events Specialist at War Child says: “We are thrilled that Kano has chosen to do this amazing show in support of War Child - made all the more special that it marks our official return to live music events. We are honoured to be working with one of the greatest artists of our time, who truly speaks to the youth culture of today, spotlighting the challenges facing a generation with honesty and humanity. As a charity who protects, supports and advocates for children and young people living in some of the most challenging contexts across the world today, that is something we appreciate. The money raised from this event will help us to continue our work with a generation – to help give the children we work with, hope for a brighter future.”

About War Child UK

War Child UK is the only specialist charity for children affected by conflict. For more than two decades they’ve been driven by a single goal – for no child’s life to be torn apart by war. They aim to reach children as early as possible when conflict breaks out and stay to support them through their recovery – keeping them safe, helping them learn and cope with their experiences, and equipping them with skills for the future. They understand children’s needs, respect their rights, and put them at the centre of the solution and campaign for changes to policies and practices to support children in conflict, working with children and young people themselves to demand their rights. Together with their partners they deliver vital, life-saving work in 15 countries across Africa, Asia and the Middle East, and Latin America. In 2019 alone, they reached over 100,000 children.
