Child-friendly summary of War Child’s Privacy Policy

This is a child-friendly summary (and not a substitute) of our Privacy Policy. We will explain how we use and keep personal data about you. We will also explain your rights about the information we have about you.

What is personal data?

It is personal information that can be used to identify you, for example your name, address, date of birth, and personal email address. It might also include information about anytime you’ve interacted with us.

What about photos and videos?

We may take photos and videos at our events. It is your choice whether you want to have your photo taken or be in our videos. We will always ask you first if you are happy for us to share these photos and videos on our website, social media (like Instagram and Facebook). If you do not want to be seen in any photo or video, you can tell someone who works at War Child.

Why do you have this information about me?

We collect information on any person who has interacted with War Child. This could be money you have given us as a donation, participating in an activity to help raise money for us, or buying something from our online shop. We keep this information so that we can thank you for your support or provide you with information about your activity.

What do you do with my information?

We keep your information on our systems. Only people in our organisation who need to can see your details. If you buy something from our shop or enter a prize draw we will use the email address you provide to send you a confirmation message. If you are under 18 years old, we will only use this information to talk to you about your interaction with War Child, such as saying thank you for your donation or answering your questions.

How can I find out what information you have about me?

It is your right to know what information we have about you. You can contact us any time and ask us to share all the information we have about you. We will only share this information with you and your legal guardian.

What can I do about the information you have about me?

Your rights also mean you can:

  • Ask us how we collect and use your information
  • Ask for a copy of your information
  • Ask us to change your information if you think it’s incorrect
  • Ask us to delete your information where you do not want us to keep it
  • Complain about us to the person who protects your privacy rights. In the UK, this is the Information Commissioner’s Office (https://ico.org.uk).

How long do you keep my information?

We keep it for as long as we need it to help you with your interaction with War Child or to thank you for your support. As soon as we have finished using it for these reasons we delete it safely and make sure no one will ever see it again.
