Happy World Book Day

War Child mobile library
Children enjoy a storytelling session at this camp in Nineveh Province, Iraq.

It's World Book Day and we want to celebrate a very special project.

Last year we held focus groups with young Syrian refugees living in Za'atari Camp. We wanted to hear about the activities they would like to see.

They expressed a strong desire for access to more books - and to Syrian literature in particular.

So, we got to work, using their feedback to design a new project.

The mobile library was born!

There are now mobile libraries rolling in camps in Iraq and Jordan.

They cater to a wide range of interests including Arabic literature, poetry, history, maths, fantasy and cookery.

Children can borrow books, attend book clubs and take part in storytelling sessions where they can read and learn.

Hearing about the Mobile Library project got me very excited, since I really love reading, but I was shy, so it was the perfect opportunity for me to do something I love and improve on a weak spot at the same time. - Saleem, 16
