Coronavirus is now spreading to every country in the world. For the most vulnerable communities, conflict, poverty and a lack of healthcare infrastructure will have devastating consequences.
War zones are already one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a child, but coronavirus threatens to make life much, much harder. Under lockdown, poor families will struggle to feed their children without being able to go out and look for work. Those living in crowded refugee camps don’t have the access they need to soap or handwashing facilities to stay clean. Many parents and grandparents who are unable to go to hospital will die from the virus, leaving children without anyone to turn to.
We must do everything we can to protect children and their families from the catastrophic impact of coronavirus, whilst continuing our vital work with children traumatised by war.
War Child has 27 years’ experience responding to large-scale crises in challenging environments.
With your help, we are well placed to adapt and respond to the pandemic. Our teams are working tirelessly to ensure that as many of our programmes as possible continue to reach those most in need. We are limiting the spread of infection where we work by using PPE and distributing hygiene kits, providing essential food packages to the hardest hit families and using specialist helplines for children who might find themselves alone or vulnerable to abuse in these new circumstances. Where schools have closed, we are working on home education kits which will mean poor children without books or basic stationary at home can continue to learn and play.
War Child is still striving for a world with no child’s life torn apart by war. As coronavirus makes our work more difficult, we are committed to finding solutions that continue to put children’s needs first
But we can’t do it without you. Please, make a donation today so we can keep our services open and continue to be there for the world’s most vulnerable children.
Donations to this appeal will fund War Child’s Coronavirus response.
It will mean being able to adapt and continue our vital work with children affected by conflict, as well as responding directly to the threat of the pandemic to children and families we work with. If funds raised from this appeal exceed the total amount we need to respond to the virus, we will ensure the money is spent wherever the need is greatest.
