Gorillaz

Gorillaz - friend of UK charity War ChildGorillaz is the godchild of Damon Albarn. The band is made up of four animated band members: 2D, Murdoc, Noodle and Russell. If pushed to try and pin down what sort of sound the band makes, I’d say a mish mash of alternative rock, hip hop, electronica, dub and pop.

The band's first album, 2001's Gorillaz, sold over seven million copies and earned them an entry in the Guinness Book of Records as the Most Successful Virtual Band. It was nominated for the Mercury Prize 2001, but the nomination was later withdrawn at the band's request. Their second studio album, Demon Days, was released in 2005 and included wicked hit singles such as "Feel Good Inc.", "DARE", "Dirty Harry" and "Kids With Guns / El Mañana". Demon Days went five times platinum in the UK, double platinum in the United States and earned five Grammy Award nominations for 2006 and won one of them in the Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals category.

Damon Albarn is also best known as the lead singer and keyboard player of rock band Blur.
Alongside all of this, Damon has produced a number of world music hits. He released Mali Music in 2002, recorded in Mali, during a trip he made to support Oxfam in 2000. He has also visited Nigeria to record music with African drummer Tony Allen and is also involved with a project called Africa Express.
Damon is a big fan of War Child and kindly donated the tracks “Eine Kleine Lift Musik to our first Help album in 1995, followed by “Hong Kong” to our Help! A Day in the Life album 2005 – woo hoo!
