Miss Sarajevo
Working under the pseudonym 'Passengers', U2, Brian Eno, Howie B and the late Luciano Pavarotti wrote and preformed the 'Miss Sarajevo' single in 1995 in response to the fashion show that took place in Sarajevo at the hight of the conflict in the Balkans. With a truly memorable contribution from Pavarotti, the single reached the top ten in most territories and raised around £300,000 for the Pavarotti Music Centre.
The following year saw the legendary tenor team up with Brian Eno, Bono, and the Edge to preform the song with the backing of a full orchestra at the Pavarotti & Friends concert in Modena, Italy. Set in beautiful surroundings, the concert was attended by a number of various luminaries, including Princess Diana and further increased the funding for War Child's project at the Pavarotti Centre in war-torn Mostar.
As well as the original 'Miss Sarajevo' artists, Michael Bolton and Meat Loaf were also on hand to lend their voices to the concert, with Meat Loaf going on to preform a duet with Pavarotti.
