Blood in the Mobile - film release
Is your phone fuelling the conflict in the Congo?
Blood in the Mobile exposes how minerals used in mobile-phone manufacture are tainted with blood and conflict. Out 21 October, this is a wake-up call to all mobile phone owners about how raw materials are sourced and the human cost of “conflict minerals”.
Rare minerals used in mobiles are sourced mostly from the DR Congo where mines are run by warlords who then use the funds to finance private armies. By purchasing conflict minerals, phone companies are financing a civil war which according to human rights organisations, has been the bloodiest conflict since World War II.
During the last 15 years the conflict has cost the lives of more than 5 million people and 300,000 women have been raped. The war will continue as long as armed groups can finance their warfare by selling minerals. If you ask the phone companies where their suppliers get minerals from, none of them can guarantee that they aren’t buying conflict minerals from the Congo.
Blood in the Mobile opens 21 October at the Empire Cinema Leicester Square. Tickets will go on sale from Monday 17 October. In order to make this campaign properly lift off the ground, we're aiming for a full house for the film's opening weekend. So please help us spread the word!
