post-BRITS gig 2009

“This is going to be the greatest encore you'll ever see!” proclaimed Chris Martin as he was joined on stage by The Killers, Bono and Gary Barlow.

'Seconds later,' commented The Times 'all four singers stood in a perfect boy-band line just long enough for disbelieving onlookers to memorise what may go down as the most brilliantly surreal finale seen at this or any rock venue in several years.'

To celebrate our 15th anniversary and the launch of our Heroes album, we invited The Killers and Coldplay to play an exclusive gig for 2,000 fans at the o2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire immediately after the BRIT Awards ceremony.

As if having the two biggest rock bands in the world headlining our show wasn’t enough, they’d invited a couple of their friends to join them onstage too.

Gary Barlow sang a duet of ‘Back For Good’ with Chris Martin – and then to top it all off Bono joined the lineup for an epic encore of ‘All These Things That I’ve Done’.

Tonight was such an honour, it was one of the most exciting gigs we've ever played.

Brandon Flowers

We couldn't have imagined that we'd make this work. The fact that the money raised from tickets have enabled War Child to extend the reach of their work is astonishing.

Chris Martin

War Child's work is vital and being able to have a moment with Brandon and Chris tonight is a salute to an awesome night for them. U2 love Elbow's new version of 'Running To Stand Still' for War Child's 'Heroes' album. They deserve all their success.
