War Child and music go way back

War Child has been heavily involved with the music industry for a number of years, from our release of the original Help! album in 1995 right up to our latest fundraising gigs. Take a nostalgic trip down memory lane and recall the early days of War Child and see how it all began.

War Child releases the Help! album

THE HELP STORY On September 9, 1995, War Child released an album called ‘Help’, featuring some of the best in Brit Pop including Oasis, Radiohead and Blur.

Miss Sarajevo

Working under the pseudonym 'Passengers', U2, Brian Eno, Howie B and the late Luciano Pavarotti wrote and preformed the 'Miss Sarajevo' single in 1995 in response to the fashion show that took place in Sarajevo at the hight of the conflict in the Balkans.

The Pavarotti Centre Opens in Mostar

War Child and the city of Mostar co-founded the Pavarotti Music centre in 1997 as a cultural centre to work across communal boundaries in the then devastated city.

The 1 Love album is released

Oasis, Prodigy, Sugababes, Starsailor, and a host of mostly UK acts come together for NME's new album project to benefit the War Child charity.

War Child releases the Hope album

The Daily Mirror helped launched the Hope album to run alongside War Child's 2003 Iraq Appeal. This exclusive album included performances by a numbr of different acts including Travis, New Order, Paul McCartney, David Bowie and George Michael.

War Child Launches 'Army of You'

On the eve of Thursday 23rd May 2007, War Child launched it’s annual New Band extravaganza Army of You with a rocking night at Camden’s Koko. The Noisettes, headlining for the evening were supported by a stellar line-up that featured some of the most exciting up and coming UK musical talent around at the time.
