EU and Gaza blockade media release
Blockade easing not enough to allow Gaza’s people to rebuild their lives, say leading NGOs, as Ashton visits.
The EU must insist on the full lifting of the blockade of Gaza, not just its easing, if it is serious about helping the economy of Gaza recover and allowing its people to rebuild their lives, says a group of 19 international humanitarian, development, human rights and peace-building organisations, as EU High Representative Catherine Ashton visits Gaza today (18 July). A group of European foreign ministers is also expected to visit Gaza soon.
Secretary of State Pledges to Place Children in Conflict States at the Centre of International Development Policy at Forum
Andrew Mitchell, the Secretary of State for International Development, today stressed his desire to place children in conflict at the heart of the Coalition Government’s foreign aid policy.
Mitchell, who was speaking at the War Child Policy Forum chaired by Channel Four’s Jon Snow, said; “The position of women and children in development is absolutely central and must inform everything that we do.”
