What we do in Iraq
War Child has fifteen years of experience working with children in war zones. Our expertise is in working with children who face the most extreme circumstances. In Iraq, we work with street children; children who come from persecuted communities, such as the Marsh Arabs; children forced to leave their homes and many others.
War Child has developed a highly successful approach to its work in Iraq, which includes supporting children and their families to develop sustainable businesses that enable them to feed themselves, access health and medical facilities and even go to school.
We reinforce this success by training local partner organisations, including the police, in child protection and by working with the government to improve legislation and increase investment in the very authorities that must take up this responsibility.
War Child will multiply the benefits of this work for many more children by ensuring that donor and political organisations take on board our learning from the ground and increase humanitarian funding and support for successful approaches to child protection even in the most difficult areas of Iraq.
None of this will be possible without your help. £1.5 million will secure our programme for three years and enable us to protect hundreds of thousands of children. Please, help us today to protect Iraq’s tomorrow.
