Iraq Appeal launch

Iraq blog | 18th October 2007

One child dies every 5 minutes in Iraq. 1 in 5 don't have enough food and 50% can't go to school. The humanitarian crisis is escalating and yet funding is inadequate. War Child is the only international child protection agency working in south Iraq. Help us raise £1.5m to continue our work with children there.

Keane Live at Brixton Academy

Event summary:
Long time War Child supporters Keane are kicking off our Iraq appeal in style with a star-studded gig at Brisxton Academy. They've brought together some of their favourite artists and best friends to raise funds for our work in Iraq. With Pet Shop Boys, Lily Allen, Guillemots, The Magic Numbers, Brendan Benson and Findlay Brown on the line-up it should be an incredible evening.

SOLD OUT!

This event is now sold out but tickets are still available for the Manchester gig.

Following the release of their War Child single The Night Sky on 29th October, Keane will be continuing their support of our work by hosting a musical extravaganza at Brixton Academy on November 1st. The evening will see Keane joined by The Magic Numbers, Pet Shop Boys, Guillemots, Teddy Thompson, Brendan Benson, Lily Allen and Findlay Brown.

All proceeds will go towards our work in Iraq, where 1 child is dying every 5 minutes because of the war.

It's an honour that some of our best friends and heroes have agreed to take part. The proceeds from the gig will start War Child on the road towards raising the funds they need to keep their child protection services going in Iraq. We hope the night itself will draw wider attention to the incredible work War Child does for the children of Iraq as well as children in many other war-torn parts of the world.

Keane Live at Manchester Apollo

Event summary:
Keane will be joined by Findlay Brown and Milburn in the first of two gigs for War Child. The money raised by this gig will go towards our work with children affected by conflict in Iraq, Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. It's also the first time they've played a big venue outside of London for a while so there's plenty of reasons to get along.

Following on from the release of The Night Sky long time War Child supporters Keane are performing two gigs for us in an as many days.

The first one is at the Manchester Apollo. It's a while since Keane have played a big gig up north so this is a great opportunity to see them outside of the capital. And with all the proceeds going towards War Child's work with children affected by war it's not difficult to justify buying a ticket.
