SHAKARA - a world music club night held at Mau Mau on Portobello Road, featuring a Congolese band, Kasai Masai, and the resident (Brazilian) band, Segunda Geração.

What motivated you to do this event?:

We hold bi-monthly world music parties and raise money for a charity working in the country of the guest band. This month, Kasai Masai were our guests and so we wanted to give the money collected to a charity working in the DR Congo.

Why did you choose to raise money for War Child?:

I myself work with issues of armed conflict and development. I have followed and been impressed by War Child for some time. I was confident that the money we raised would be put to good use. Moreover, given the organisation's involvement in music, our event seemed like an appropriate fundraiser.
