Event date: Friday 8th August 2008
Location: Victoria Park, Hackney, London
After successfully avoiding the bouncers and their strict 'under 18s only' policy, War Child set up shop and started what turned out to be an amazing day. Luckily the rain held off for the better part of a day which saw some great performances and a 7,500 strong turn-out in the second Underage festival since last year's hugely successful event.
So, after rigging up our 7ft tall War Child banners and covering our table with as many leaflets and free badges as we could fit, we set about generally making ourselves heard. Many of you will no doubt remember us for our frenzied stickering of anyone who came by our tent, but hey, free stuff is good right?
With Victoria Park buzzing with energy and enthusiasm, War Child's tent was soon jam-packed full of young festival goers eager to learn more about our amazing work. That said, we broke out the email sign up sheets and hundreds of you put pen to paper to sign up to our newsletter. With a bag full of photographs and the odd video thrown in for good measure, we'll be keeping you all updated of our Facebook, MySpace and Flickr pages when everything's up online.
War Child was also lucky enough to sneek backstage and grab a photograph with Dizzee Rascal, who had just finished playing a short, but hugely crowd pleasing set on the Converse Century Stage.
With the headlining bands finished, we packed up and headed home, unable to keep up with the pace of the 14 - 18 year olds, although we showed our true grit by blessing Victoria Park with our presence in the same spot on the following day's Field Day festival, but that's another story.
That's all from us for now, so thanks for stopping by and we'll keep you posted on any new developments.
You can see our Facebook and MySpace pages which will have all our Underage photos available for your viewing pleasure.
