Second Life raises cash for War Child

Back in June, users of the online world Second Life held a twelve hour dance marathon, hosting events for Second Life avatars to dance their socks off and donate money to War Child at the same time. We’re really chuffed Second Lifers hosted this event for us – and it was a great success.

Second Life allows users to create their own character (or avatar) and explore, create and interact with others. People can exchange their real world money for the Second Life currency of Linden Dollars which they can use to do anything from purchasing their own little bit of virtual land to a sharp looking T-shirt for their avatar, and it’s all fully transferable back into real life hard currency.

An amazing L$764,857 was raised (that’s £1,213.24 in real world cash!) all going towards War Child’s vital work with children who are living with the impact of conflict.

We want to say a huge thank you to those involved including the many clubs, shops and DJs who took part. Keep an eye on Second Life and on our blog for future Second Life events in aid of War Child.
